Cheese sticks from puff pastry

Dear Heroes,

for many years, cheese sticks have been my absolute favorite side dish for a light summer meal. In addition, they are a perennial favorite as a souvenir for parties and just super delicious! My sibling ROLA also always snacks on them immediately after we bake them together. They are super quick and easy to make. Here you can find my basic recipe:

Cheese sticks from puff pastry

for about 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of puff pastry (from the refrigerated section)

  • 300 g cheese (Gouda, Cheddar etc.)

  • 1 egg (1 yolk and 1 white)

  • chopped herbs (parsley, chives) to taste

  • 1 pinch each of salt and pepper

Preparation:

  1. Coarsely grate the cheese. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

  2. Divide the puff pastry into four equal rectangular pieces. It is important that all surfaces of the puff pastry are coated with egg white. The egg white will make the cheese, etc. stick to the puff pastry.

  3. Brush the first piece with egg white and sprinkle with cheese, some salt, pepper, herbs. Then place the second piece of puff pastry on top.

  4. Then do the same with the other pieces of puff pastry and layer them on top of each other (4 pieces of pastry, 3 layers).

  5. Cut the layered dough into 3 cm wide strips.

  6. Twirl the strips, stretch them a bit and place them on a baking sheet with baking paper. Leave enough space between the strips, as the puff pastry will still rise.

  7. Finally, brush the pastry strips with egg yolk and season with salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Then bake the bars for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

From this basic recipe you can conjure up different variations. In addition to cheese, you can add tomato paste, ham or other favorite ingredients. A delicious herb curd dip also tastes very good with it. As you can see, there are almost no limits to your imagination ;)

Have fun trying it out and feel free to share your results under the hashtag #ellyscheesesticks. I look forward to seeing your results.
